Rebel Records signs Spring Creek

Rebel Records is pleased to announce it has signed a record deal with the award-winning Colorado bluegrass band Spring Creek. The energetic quartet plays music inspired by the classic sounds of traditional bluegrass, with a young, fresh twist. Spring Creek has traveled the country from north to south, gaining a reputation for exuberant performances at house concerts, festivals and clubs along the way.

Spring Creek’s creative original songs and meticulous harmony vocals caught the attention of the Charlottesville, Virginia, bluegrass label—which has never signed a band from west of the Mississippi.

Mark Freeman of Rebel Records says, “We are thrilled to be working with a dynamic band like Spring Creek. They project a youthful, highly energetic contemporary sound that is fresh yet still very much rooted in tradition. Moreover, for a relatively young group, they already display such a high degree of professionalism. A lot of thought and care goes into everything they do, from their stage show right on down to their website and press kits!... I have no doubt they will quickly win over bluegrass audiences everywhere."

“It’s an honor to be the first band from the west signed to Rebel. They are steeped in tradition, and I’m overwhelmed to be a part of such a rich history,” says upright bass player Jessica Smith.

Band mate Alex Johnstone agrees. “To be on the same roster as Ralph Stanley is just about the greatest thing I can think of,” says the mandolin and fiddle player.

The members of Spring Creek have paid their dues as music scholars, teachers and road warriors, belying their youthfulness. They all studied together at South Plains College in Texas, under such bluegrass notables as Alan Munde and Joe Carr.

“Signing this record deal is the culmination of a lot of hard work,” says Taylor Sims, Spring Creek’s guitarist. “It’s such a thrill to be signed to Rebel—a label I have long admired, not only for their deep catalog of bluegrass hits, but for their business ethic.”

“Being on Rebel really raises the stakes for me creatively,” agrees banjo picker Chris Elliott. “I always want to keep growing, and Rebel will help us create a quality product with a high profile producer to bring out the best in our band.”

Spring Creek are the 2007 Telluride and RockyGrass Festival winners, and are the first band to win both titles in the same summer. The band’s original Colorado anthem “High Up in the Mountains” won the Vox Populi Award for Best Americana Song from the Independent Music Awards this year.

The quartet is set to go into the studio in late fall, with an expected release date in spring of 2009.

The band will be at the International Bluegrass Music Association’s 2008 “World Of Bluegrass” taking place at the Nashville Convention Center from September 29th thru October 5th in Nashville, Tennessee. Their performance schedule for the week is as follows:
