Country Gentlemen
After an absence of 2 or 3 years from the recording studio, the Country Gentlemen returned to their original label, Rebel, in an impressive way with this striking collection of well-crafted, beautifully arranged new songs that serve to underline Charlie Waller's preeminent place in bluegrass music. The well-chosen material flows nicely from the mellow to hard-driving (Norman Wright's “Ain’t It Funny”) with Glenn Duncan on fiddle and Steve Wilson on dobro adding significantly to a superb bluegrass sound that is as contemporary as it is traditional. Every song here is strong, but deserving of special mention are Randall Hylton's “A Tree That Stands Alone” and “Don’t Stop Being You,” Keith Little's “Miner’s Life” and Norman Wright's powerful and sensitive “Lonely Child.”
