Looking For Yourself (1989)

Lonesome River Band

Led by the imaginative and determined Tim Austin, whose Ferrum, Virginia studio was already making a strong name for itself in contemporary bluegrass recording before their emergence, The Lonesome River Band was on the verge of establishing itself as a leader in the field when it cut this album that featured the excellent singing of Dan Tyminski and top-flight arrangements of some great material. This disc also features fine, imaginative picking (including standout fiddling by guest Stuart Duncan). Top cuts include 'Laura Jean' (with its neat use of banjo and mandolin riffs), Randall Hylton’s 'It Almost Feels Like Love,' a bouncy arrangement of Bill Monroe’s 'Rocky Road Blues', 'Rock & Roll' (a gospel song) and a fine a cappella 'Brother John.'
