Tony Rice
Although it was one of Tony Rice's earliest albums, California Autumn is a superb effort beautifully produced by John Starling and containing a good assortment of material showcasing Rice's outstanding guitar work. Rice's fine vocals also stand out, especially on tracks like 'Good Woman's Love,', 'Georgia On My Mind,' 'You Don't Know My Mind,' and brother Larry's 'Mr. Poverty.' In the way of instrumentals there are the lovely renditions of 'Beaumont Rag,' 'Red Haired Boy,' 'Scarborough Fair,' and 'Billy In The Low Ground.' The album, updated on CD last year, has now been issued on vinyl, receiving a significant upgrade to its packaging, with new graphics, the addition of liner notes penned by Blue Highway front man and Rice enthusiast Tim Stafford as well as a number of previously unpublished photos of Tony.
