Steep Canyon Rangers
Deep In The Shade was the Steep Canyon Rangers' last of four albums they recorded for Rebel Records. It was also Rebel's first foray into releasing vinyl after many years. This album features some of their best work, blending that driving mountain sound with enough pop influence to retain a large audience among diehard bluegrass fans and folks new to the genre alike. Highlights of this fine record include "Turn Up the Bottle," "There Ain't No Easy Street," "The Mountain's Gonna Sing," "Have Mercy," and a neat a cappella treatment of Leadbelly’s old "Sylvie."
