Clinch Mountain Gospel (1977)

Ralph Stanley

A number of fans and musicians have called this the “ultimate Ralph Stanley gospel album”. The wonderful selection of songs, played by the Clinch Mountain Boys in their prime, make it such. Highlights include a classic version of “Amazing Grace” and two up-tempo tracks featuring Dr. Stanley’s clawhammer banjo: “Over in the Gloryland” and “Travelling the Highway Home," and the soulful singing of a young Keith Whitley at his best on stunning versions of "Oh Death," and "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem." This is an absolutely superb album that should be in the collection of any Stanley fan.
